Destination Kenya & Tanzania

June to January, is the best time to visit this magnificent part of the world. When the dry season arrives in the south around June you can witness the magnificent migration of the wildebeest. In pursuit of food and water, over a million wildebeest and half a million zebra and antelope migrate north forming columns that stretch for miles, moving from the depleted and dry Serengeti in Tanzania to the adjoining Masai Mara reserve in Kenya.

In November, when the grazing is finished in the north and the rains resume in the south, the army of animals surges back to the renewed pastures of the Serengeti to mate and calve. The migration is a spectacular, as is the proliferation of wildlife activity that occurs when predators become spoiled for choice.

The Ngorongoro Crater, a World Heritage Site, boasts some of the best game viewing in Africa - including the elusive black rhino. From high up on the rim of the crater, survey an ever-changing patchwork of green and yellow hues streaked with shadows and mist. The thousands of black dots scattered along the course of the river on the crater floor give a hint of what you’ll encounter in the valley.

Living in the crater’s varied terrain is Africa’s highest density of predators including lions and leopards, hyenas and jackals, hippos and rhinos, giraffes and antelope – you’ll see them all in this natural amphitheatre only nineteen kilometers wide.

Be mesmerised in the crater as you near the seemingly endless pink lake that on close inspection, reveals itself to be thousands upon thousands of flamingos.

In Arusha and the Masai Mara, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to acquire some curios, including brightly coloured beaded jewelry, wooden carvings of your favourite animals, even a traditional black and red checked Masai blanket or weapon.
