Before You Go
Occasionally our itineraries need to change to accommodate festivals, seasons, or for other reasons beyond our control. We will always let you know in advance if we need to alter an itinerary or offer alternative accommodation etc.
Destinations by Design are not flight booking agents and it is your responsibility to book and pay for your own flights to the start destination city. We can put you in touch with providers we recommend.
Please ensure that your passport is up to date with at least 6 months validity or as required by the destination you are travelling to.
Some countries will provide electronic visas, others are available at the arrival airport whilst others can only be obtained prior to your departure. We endeavour to provide up to date information but it is your responsibility to check to ensure that you comply with the customs of each city.
Please ensure that you have updated vaccinations and consult your health care provider for up to date requirements for your travel.
For our Australian clients, it is also wise to consult www.smarttraveller.gov.au for up to date information and where you may also like to register your travel details. Where similar services are provided for clients from outside Australia we will let you know.
It is a requirement of travel with Destinations by Design that you have adequate travel insurance. We will ask you for your insurance provider and policy number prior to your arrival.
Some of our destinations include activities that are a little more challenging and require some trekking and physical exertion; you should satisfy yourself that you are fit and able prior to booking those itineraries. Call us to discuss if you are at all unsure.
We ask all our guests to comply with the cultural expectations of the destinations we visit. This will make our journey more enjoyable, allowing for respectful interaction with the locals we meet along the way.
In most of the countries we visit, tipping is a part of every day life. If you feel uncomfortable please ask your tour leader for guidance to the amounts. As a general rule you should tip your drivers, local guides, hotel porters and for service in restaurants. We can also assist you with bargaining at shops and markets if you feel uncomfortable with this practice.
Not all credit cards can successfully be used in all countries. The most widely used credit card is Visa but of course these cannot be used in roadside stalls, most local art and craft centres and in markets and souqs. There are ATMs in most of the larger cities and you can access local currency in this way. You should ensure that you have enough funds in your accounts. Consult our country fact sheets for further information about currency exchange.
The most important requisite for travel with Destinations by Design is a sense of humour, respect for the local culture and above all tolerance.
